COVID 19: I STILL Hope for Humanity – Poem

There is a time and a place for everything, nothing new under the sun, But I can’t help shake the feeling that something new has just begun.
My mundane schedule of work, life and love yesterday seemed fine until this morning
An enemy unseen, a Reaper brought fiend, adorning humanity as its weapon of means
Has launched an attack without warning.
It reared its head in silence, bore teeth yet claimed no roar.
Shrouded its arrival with mystery, and entered with no knock at the door.
It touches with phantom contact and steals without human hands.
And any being within 6 feet puts my attention at high in demand.
I have never been so keenly aware of the impact a stranger could bring.
A single inhale could mean life or death as I fix my facial covering.
Many are dead. Millions are sick. Millions are unemployed.
And all of us are wondering how long we can avoid
the distance of “old normals” that we had once enjoyed.
I don’t see many cars on the highway. Curfewed lockdowns give Night an eerie still.
The grocery stores are pillaged and plundered and the News is still news of cheap thrills.
And yet, through it all, we don’t stop living.
We don’t stop trying, thriving and giving.
Puzzle pieces of peace pieced my prayers in heart, soul and mind from The Source I cannot tell where.
And I have learned that it’s possible to touch the brokenhearted without being physically there.
True intimacy is more than just physical
and your boredom will boast of miracles.
Social distance doesn’t mean I am soulfully distant
as kind acts from strangers makes a difference in an instant.
Virtual parties, donations, drive-by celebrations,
Frontline workers of all occupations, From those that are trying and fighting the grief
To those that are sick and hungry and weak,
From the North to the South,
From the East Coast to the West,
From Wuhan to Washington,
Buenos Aires to Bangladesh,
Humanity will not be broken.
Your courage is token
of a strength unspoken
that can not be dismantled by COVID. There is a time and a place for everything, nothing new under the sun, But I can’t help shake the feeling that something new has just begun.
